Fifteen early admittance students to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar
(CMU-Q)
had dinner together recently as part of the school’s welcome to the high achievers. It was the second year in a row that the university has offered early admittance.
Sheikha
Athba Al Thani, adviser to the CEO of Qatar Diar-Vinci Construction, gave the keynote address, speaking as both mother and business person.
“I have
seen the changes in my daughter’s personality — the way that she has developed
her independence in a very short time — and for that I thank Carnegie Mellon for
their support,” Al Thani said.
Ilker
Baybars, dean and CEO of CMU-Q, reminded the students that they have faculty to call upon for guidance.
“Throughout your studies, your professors will challenge you,
support you and guide you,” Baybars said. “They are experts in their fields,
and they are also dedicated educators. I encourage you to reach out, ask
questions, and use the full resources we have available for you.”
One student, Shouq Al-Khuzaei, said both she and her parents were proud of her early acceptance.
“I really worked hard, and
it was very stressful, but it ended well,” she said.
