Dr. Faisal Mohammed Alfaqeer assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) at the company’s headquarters in Riyadh on Apr. 1.

The leadership change comes as SABIC prepares to mark its 50th anniversary, a significant milestone for the global industry leader.

Alfaqeer was appointed by SABIC’s Board of Directors in March to succeed Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh as CEO. In his statement upon taking office, Alfaqeer said: “It is with a great pride that I take the helm at SABIC, a global industry leader and national champion with long-standing legacy,” adding, “I am privileged to be chosen by SABIC’s esteemed Board of Directors to lead the company into its next chapter, building on its rich and long history as the company is set to mark its 50th Anniversary.”

With more than three decades of experience in the industry, Alfaqeer has held several key positions prior to joining SABIC. He previously chaired the board of ARLANXEO and Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company. He also served as CEO of Sadara Chemical Company from October 2017 until November 2022 and was Senior Vice President for In-Kingdom Liquids-to-Chemicals Development at Saudi Aramco.

Alfaqeer holds both a Master of Science degree and PhD degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, along with a bachelor’s degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in Dhahran.
