On July 18, 1971, the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the Rulers of the Emirates gathered at the Guest Palace in Dubai. They signed a declaration that formed the Union and Constitution of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), officially proclaiming its name. This event marked a significant beginning for one of modern history’s successful models of unity and development. The Union flag was raised on December 2, marking the birth of a country committed to building its future on unity and forward-thinking.

The Union Pledge has become an enduring national symbol since that day, inspiring generations with values like sacrifice, loyalty, and solidarity. With wise leadership designating July 18 as Union Pledge Day each year, it is not just a commemoration but also a renewal of commitment to continue giving and leading under His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The UAE has pursued a pioneering developmental journey centered on people and driven by innovation to uplift the nation. It has become a global model for building a sustainable economy and cohesive society under leadership that prioritizes foresight and future readiness. The country stands at the forefront of efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, tackle climate change, and transition to a green economy.

Commemorating this occasion renews our pledge to uphold the spirit of unity. The UAE’s interests remain paramount with determination to shape a prosperous future for all Emiratis. The Union flag remains a symbol of pride for everyone in this nation.

Union Pledge Day serves as another milestone—a reaffirmation of loyalty to leadership and commitment to continuing along National values established by Founding Fathers. At Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), we fulfill our national duty with dedication inspired by union spirit in striving toward net-zero by 2050. We pray for protection over our beloved nation so progress endures while keeping high hopes for security dignity prosperity blessed upon UAE.
