Helping local businesses understand cybercrime regulations, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently sponsored a workshop to study and assess the legalities pertaining to branding and business identity via its own “ENGAGE Dubai” program.

To educate organizations on protecting their own brands, the chamber held the seminar through its Centre for Responsible Business. Candice Kloes, senior legal counsel for UAE telecom operator Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company — know as du — co-directed the workshop with Dino Wilkinson, partner with Norton Rose Fulbright (Middle East) LLP.

The moderators revealed their own encounters in the legal system to workshop attendees with a focus on protecting business identity on websites and in social media, while the chamber’s Belaid Rettab, who directs economic research and sustainable business development, pointed out the increasing importance of appropriate public relations practices in the digital age.

Anneliese Reinhold, serving as general counsel and legal and regulatory SVP at du, added that empowering businesses to improve and preserve their online reputations not only protects entrepreneurs but also allows her organization to contribute its share.

“Du’s legal team is … thrilled to be able to support Dubai Chamber in this exciting ENGAGE initiative,” Reinhold said.
