Seeking to promote commerce in Africa, the
Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is embarking on a five-day trade mission on Monday to Mozambique and South Africa to promote Dubai’s business
potential.
The mission will present a variety of opportunities,
including roundtable conversations; “Africa – Bridging the Gap,” a private
sector focus group; and interactive dialog events.
Dubai Chamber Chairman Majid Saif Al Ghurair will take the lead alongside Chamber President and CEO Hamad Buamim, who said the undertaking represents the chamber’s strong commitment to exploring
new markets, particularly in the developing world, in the face of a changing
global economy.
Buamim said the mission’s goal is to open the doorway
to potential partnerships and joint ventures as well as facilitate meetings
between public and private sector stakeholders.
“(We) are now preparing … to reinforce Dubai’s position as a
gateway for global investments to and from Africa,” Buamim said. “This trade
mission today is part of these efforts, which also include the opening of
international offices in the continent and the organization of the next edition
of the Africa Global Business Forum in Dubai.”
Trade mission delegates will include Essa Abdulla Al Ghurair, chairman
of Essa Al-Ghurair Investments LLC; Abdullah Sharafi, president of Gerab
National Enterprises; Ali Al Fardan, managing director for Al Fardan Group of
Companies; Mohammad Al Suwaidi, senior vice president for business and government relations at
Majid Al Futtaim Retail; Rashed Bu Qara’a, chairman at EduHub; Rassem Zok,
CEO/Middle East and North Africa for The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited
(Dubai branch); and Rob Hersov, founder & chairman of Invest Africa.
