A recent workshop presented by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with Hadef & Partners focused on Labor Law in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The “Employment Cycle” workshop was attended by chamber members, attorneys, legal consultants, investors, advisers, human resources professionals and business managers and owners. It was overseen by Jamie Liddington, head of the employment department, and John Stamper, senior legal consultant, and Ammar El Banna, associate, with Hadef & Partners.

The workshop clarified issues related to the legal framework of employment in the UAE, focusing on free zones and rights outlined by the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980, which contains the regulation of labor relations and common issues that can result from termination of employees.
Jehad Kazim, director of the legal services department of the Dubai chamber, said as the UAE market expands the need to recruit and retain manpower has increased, making understanding the legal framework of UAE employment a necessity.

“The UAE is a young nation which has experienced an unprecedented rate of development,” Liddington said. “The framework of employment and immigration laws has its foundations in legislation which is now 42 years old (Immigration Law) and 35 years old (Labor Law).”

The Dubai chamber hosts a variety of training sessions, seminars and workshops.
