The Food and Beverage Business Group, under the umbrella of
the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, recently launched “Wafaa,” a
food donation initiative in which people package and deliver essential food
items to the less fortunate.
The group is
partnering with the Beit Al Khair Society on the initiative.
The launch of Wafaa, which means giving back to society, was announced during a ceremony at Dubai Chamber involving Atiq Juma Nasib, senior vice president of the Dubai Chamber Commercial Services Sector; Saleh Abdullah Lootah, chairman of the Food and Beverage Business
Group; and Saeed Mubarak Almazrooei, deputy executive manager of Beit Al Khair
Society Dubai.
The first Wafaa initaitive will receive committed food
donations from Dubai Refreshments (Pepsi), Unilever, Unikai, Al Islami Foods,
Emirates Macaroni Factory, United Foods, Al Rawdah Foods and Al Barakah Dates
Factory.
“In its first year, a good number of member companies have
participated in such a short notice, which is a great inspiration for all of us
to do more for the needy,” Lootah said. “I take this opportunity to thank all participating
companies and those who committed support to the Wafaa program.”
The program will run throughout the year and support various
charity projects organized by the Beit Al Khair Society.
