Guided by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
the Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC) along with three affiliated Korean organizations recently led a dispute resolution
seminar in Dubai focusing on the construction industry.
The seminar emphasized the role of in-house legal counsel and
similar associated practitioners in resolving disputes. Speakers included Sung
Bae Ji, president of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board; and Abdul Moneim
Bin Suwaidan, a DIAC board member, and chairman/owner of Bin
Sowaidan Advocates.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of
Justice of the Republic of Korea (MOJ), Korean Commercial Arbitration Board
(KCAB) and the Seoul International Dispute Resolution Centre (SIDRC).
DIAC Chairman Habib Al Mulla said the event was helpful
in facilitating shared discussion of past experiences and exchanging strategies
for addressing typical construction issues on an international level. He added
that DIAC is committed to upholding best practices for alternative methods of
dispute resolution.
The seminar focused on trade specifically in the Middle East,
Africa and Korea, with attention to setting fees, ways of preventing on-demand
bond abuse, emergency arbitration and legal measures.
