Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will switch over company vehicle registration renewals from customer service centers to electronic and smart channels at the start of November.

The switchover will act as a pilot program as the RTA prepares to migrate all vehicle registrations to online methods next year.

The move is part of Dubai’s major effort to create a “Smart Government,” which will make most governmental services available online. To that end, the RTA is revamping how it delivers services to both businesses and individual citizens.

Services offered at the RTA’s affiliated customer service centers will gradually be diverted to alternative electronic and smart channels, including the transport authority’s website and smartphone app.

The RTA Licensing Agency’s CEO Ahmed Bahrozyan said the authority is making major efforts to be in line with the Dubai government’s vision for a Smart Government. That means reducing the number of visitors to customer service centers and instead encouraging them to process transactions online.

“This will render our service offering a smooth exercise, and add to the happiness of recipients,” Bahrozyan said. “Electronic and smart channels have a significant role in encouraging companies and individuals to use them since they save the hassles of waiting, and enable them process their transactions and services in an express manner, without obliging them to visit the service points.”
