The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s concentrated solar power (CSP) project has set a new Guinness World Record. Developed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the project achieved the highest capacity for a single-operator CSP plant at 700 megawatts (MW). The certificate was presented to HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, by the Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator during an event attended by several DEWA officials.
“Achieving this new world record for the CSP project underlines our commitment to realising the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to strengthen Dubai’s global leadership in renewable and clean energy through the use of advanced and innovative technologies to achieve net zero by 2050,” said Al Tayer.
“We are proud of this global recognition, which reflects our strong commitment to innovation and sustainability. It underscores Dubai’s position as a global leader in clean and renewable energy and the green economy. This achievement also highlights our capability to develop major projects that strike a balance between economic growth and environmental protection, safeguarding the right of future generations to live in a clean, healthy and safe environment,” added Al Tayer.
The fourth phase of the solar park has a total capacity of 950MW using three hybrid technologies: 600MW from CSP parabolic basin complex, 100MW from CSP tower, and 250MW from photovoltaic solar panels. Previously, this phase had set two other Guinness World Records for having the tallest concentrated solar power tower at 263.126 meters and for being the largest thermal energy storage plant with a capacity of 5,907 megawatt-hours using CSP based on parabolic basin complex and molten salt technology.
