The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and
Industry recently hosted the UAE-Slovenia Seminar in conjunction with the
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.

In attendance at the meeting were Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE minister of economy; Zdravko Pocivalsek, minister of development and technology, Republic of Slovenia; Majid Al Ghurair, chairman; and Hamad Buamim, president and CEO, Dubai Chamber.
Additionally, a contingent of 200 strong government and business representative
from Slovenia and a group of business representatives from the UAE attended.

“In recognition of Slovenia’s
prime importance as an economic partner, the UAE has entered into various
accords with its government such as a bilateral agreement avoiding double
taxation on income and has co-signed an agreement to reinforce economic and
technical cooperation in order to establish the institutional and legal
framework of joint economic, trade and investment relations and pave the way
for further cooperation relations between the two countries,”
Al Mansouri said.

Al Mansouri noted that non-oil trade between the UAE and
Slovenia reached $63.4 million last year. While that is a strong number, Al
Mansouri added that there is much room for growth. He believes opportunities for
trade growth can be developed in tourism, infrastructure, transport,
investments, information technology and innovation.

Pocivalsek spoke at the event, as well, talking about the
importance of the two countries’ relationship.

“Our visit to the UAE is very
important for strengthening the traditionally good ties between Slovenia and
the UAE and to continue what we have started last year,” he
said. “This is our first-ever Trade and Investment Mission to
the UAE with an aim to develop commercial networks and trade with UAE partners
and the Slovenian international trade delegation.”
