Dubai Supreme Council discusses sustainable energy initiatives

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, led the 88th meeting of the Council, which took place virtually. Present were HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council; HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General; and board members including HE Marwan bin Ghalita from Dubai Municipality, HE Abdulla bin Kalban from Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), and HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi from Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC). Juan-Pablo Freile from Dubai Petroleum and Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP) and Muna Alosaimi from Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) also attended.

The meeting focused on strategic initiatives aimed at achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Progress in sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen projects was reviewed to enhance Dubai’s role as a clean energy hub. The council discussed the World Green Economy Organization’s efforts in building international partnerships and local competencies for a green economy transition. Additionally, results of the Demand Side Management Strategy 2050 were examined. This strategy aims for significant savings in electricity, water, and fuel consumption by 2030 and 2050.

Al Tayer emphasized: “In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum… we continue to implement pioneering projects in the renewable energy sector… We also highlighted sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen projects that support diversification of energy sources.”

Al Muhairbi added: “The Council has outlined key initiatives to create opportunities to use alternatives for vehicle fuel by converting organic waste.”
