The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has concluded the submission period for the Emirates Energy Award, attracting global participation. The award, which now includes entries from regions beyond the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), aims to recognize innovation and excellence in sustainable energy on a worldwide scale.
Following the deadline, the Technical Committee began evaluating applications based on criteria such as innovation, energy efficiency, renewable energy promotion, and projects’ economic, social, and environmental impacts. This evaluation supports achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The submissions coincided with the release of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Emissions Gap Report 2024. The report emphasizes urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by significant percentages by 2030 and 2035. It also highlights initiatives like the Emirates Energy Award as crucial in transitioning to clean energy and addressing climate change challenges.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Emirates Energy Award, stated that “the Emirates Energy Award is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” aiming to support sustainable development by raising awareness about clean energy sources. Al Tayer noted that as participation grows globally, the award plays a key role in recognizing best practices in sustainable energy both regionally and globally.
Al Tayer added that since its inception, the award has attracted broad international participation, affirming its role in supporting net-zero efforts aligned with international initiatives warning against climate inaction consequences. With submissions closed, he emphasized witnessing efforts to establish it as an influential platform against climate change.
HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirates Energy Award said: “The evaluation process will follow the highest international standards,” focusing on projects reducing carbon footprints and promoting clean energy transition. He highlighted its role as a global platform for knowledge exchange.
The award features ten categories emphasizing creativity, innovation, energy efficiency, renewable energy promotion over other sources, and projects’ economic, social, and environmental impacts. Categories include Public Sector Efficiency; Private Sector Efficiency; Large & Small Energy Projects; Circular Economy; Large & Small Solar Projects; Education & Capacity Building; Research & Development; Young Energy Professional.
