Emirates Islamic, the Dubai-based subsidiary of the Middle East’s largest banking group, Emirates NBD, has donated three million dirhams — more than $800,000 — to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

The donation went to the DHA’s Moussadah (assistance) committee and will be used to set up a mammography unit in Hatta Hospital as well as to install the latest physiotherapy technology at the DHA’s rehabilitation center. The physiotherapy equipment is intended to help stroke patients regain the ability to walk.

Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, chairman of the DHA board said the donation is just the latest in a number of contributions to the Moussadah committee, which he said have led to better results for patients.

“Over the years, Emirates Islamic has contributed to several of the Moussadah committee’s initiatives and has helped fund treatment for those with financial constraints,” Al Qatami said. “We are thankful to them for their support and contribution.”

Abdulla Showaiter, Emirates Islamic’s Deputy CEO for Islamic Banking Corporate and Investment said the bank is committed to supporting the community, especially in the healthcare sector.

“Emirates Islamic is proud to support the Dubai Health Authority in their endeavour to provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities in the emirate,” Showaiter said. “This contribution emphasizes our long-term commitment to further developing the UAE healthcare sector and all other public utility sectors.”
