Emirates NBD commits to women’s leadership with UN Women’s Empowerment Principles

Dubai, UAE, 22 July 2025: Emirates NBD has signed the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), strengthening its commitment to female empowerment and leadership. The banking group aims for women to hold 25% of all leadership positions by 2027.

Shayne Nelson, Group CEO at Emirates NBD, remarked on the significance of signing the WEPs: “Signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles provides further momentum to the impressive efforts we have undertaken here at Emirates NBD to champion women in the workplace.”

Dr. Mouza Al Shehhi from the UN Women GCC Liaison Office welcomed this move, stating: “We are delighted to welcome Emirates NBD as a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). This commitment reflects the Bank’s dedication to advancing gender equality and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.”

Eman Abdulrazzaq, Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Human Resources Officer at Emirates NBD, emphasized their initiatives designed for inclusivity: “By signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, we demonstrate our dedication to advancing gender equality… Our initiatives… are designed to create an inclusive environment where women can thrive and reach their full potential.”

Vijay Bains, Chief Sustainability Officer and Group Head of ESG at Emirates NBD, commented on their role in societal development: “Women represent half of the world population and investing in their empowerment plays a huge role in advancing gender equality and inclusive economic growth.”

Emirates NBD has introduced various initiatives such as expanding maternity policy, flexible work options within UAE, launching a Career Comeback Programme for women returning after career breaks, providing targeted training opportunities for women, and implementing female-focused facilities across offices.

The WEPs provide guidance on promoting gender equality in workplaces globally. By joining these principles, Emirates NBD supports sustainable development goals aligned with international labor standards.
