Emirates NBD Group has announced its commitment to the WELL at scale certification program, becoming the first bank in the MENA region to do so. This initiative, undertaken with the International Well Building Institute (IWBI), is part of Emirates NBD’s broader efforts to prioritize employee health and well-being.

The WELL at scale certification provides a global standard that focuses on people and performance as organizations expand. It serves as an evidence-based roadmap supporting both individuals and organizations. This certification aims to unite Emirates NBD offices under a common vision of health, enhancing their strategy for employee well-being.

Eman Abdulrazzaq, Group Chief Operating Officer at Emirates NBD, stated: “We are delighted to partner with the International Well Building Institute, committing to WELL at scale. As a socially responsible bank, Emirates NBD continues its internal sustainability and wellness journey by strengthening our business practices and ensuring our employees work in environments that prioritize their health, comfort and productivity.”

Abdulrazzaq further commented on the role of employees within the organization: “Our people power our potential and progress – they are the heart of everything we have achieved and can aspire to achieve, and their well-being is a blueprint for our success.”

Tekha Selim from IWBI remarked on this partnership: “Partnering with Emirates NBD marks a powerful step forward for the region. By adopting WELL at scale, they are putting health, wellbeing, and human experience at the centre of how their spaces support staff, clients and key stakeholders.” He added that “Emirates NBD is setting a new benchmark for the financial sector.”

In addition to joining the WELL program, Emirates NBD has reinforced its sustainability commitments by signing onto the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking in 2024. This aligns their strategies with global initiatives such as the Paris Agreement.

Earlier this year in April 2025, Emirates NBD was recognized as leading both commercial and retail sectors in terms of LEED Platinum certifications under Interior Design and Construction (ID+C). This achievement highlights their dedication to environmental stewardship aligned with UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

Looking ahead, Emirates NBD plans to extend WELL certifications into Saudi Arabia as part of their expansion strategy linked with Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and Vision 2030.
