The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) recently signed an agreement to have Etihad ESCO review the efficiency of its energy consumption levels and performance in order to evaluate the facility for the suitability of energy retrofits.

“DWTC serves as a hub for over 2 million visitors who come to the venue each year,” Abdulrahman Obaid Abualshawareb, senior vice president of Protocol & Facilities Management at DWTC, said. “As we continue to attract more international congresses and high-profile events, we are delighted to partner with Etihad ESCO to assess our energy usage and take the necessary steps to achieve long-term, sustainable energy efficiency.”

The energy assessment is in keeping with the Dubai Plan 2021 and the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which call for reducing energy demand in the country by 30 percent by 2030.

“Etihad ESCO works to promote the optimal use of energy, improve the energy efficiency market and retrofit over 30,000 existing buildings in Dubai,” Stephane Le Gentil, CEO of Etihad ESCO, said. “DWTC is the leading venue for regional events; and it will be our endeavor to curb any excess power usage, and look for possible avenues to retrofit existing buildings and facilities with sustainable alternatives.”
