In keeping with the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, hosted a charity iftar for 5,000 workers at the Workers Village in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi.

The company’s employees and leadership contributed generously, purchasing thousands of iftar vouchers for the laborers’ meals.

The event, titled “Share your blessings this Ramadan,” was hosted by the airline’s Sports and Social Committee. More than 300 employees volunteered to distribute meals to the workers breaking their fasts. Volunteers also distributed water, nuts, socks and sunglasses to the 5,000 workers.

“Our Sports and Social Committee conducts initiatives throughout the year to support humanitarian and charitable causes,” Khaled Almehairbi, Etihad Airways senior vice president of Abu Dhabi Airport operations and chairman of the Sports and Social Committee, said. “This fosters an environment of engagement and inclusion among our staff, partner airlines and the local community. The generosity of our staff and the company once again enabled us to host a successful charity iftar for workers, making the holy month of Ramadan a memorable experience for all, and importantly, engages with the workers who share our community.”

During Ramadan, Etihad Airways organizes several events to support charitable causes. A donation drive provided thousands of plates, cutlery items and glassware to charitable institutions and needy families in Dubai, Ajman and Sharjah.

Charitable sporting events included the sixth annual Ramadan Charity Football Tournament, which raised money to support Syrian refugees in Serbia.
