The Abu Dhabi-based development company Gulf Related recently retained the project and program management consultancy Faithful+Gould to provide cost management services for its Al Maryah development.

Faithful+Gould will consult on Phase I of the $1.5 billion mixed-use development on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi. The 3.1 million-square-foot development will house a 2.3 million-square-foot shopping center.

When the project is completed in March 2018, the Al Maryah Central Mall will include the first Macy’s store outside of the United States, as well as the first Bloomingdale’s in Abu Dhabi. Those will be part of the mall’s 400-store retail offering.

“Al Maryah Central will transform Abu Dhabi’s retail offering and is a project we are really pleased to be a part of,” Donal O’Leary, Faithful+Gould’s director, said. “The mall has definitely differentiated itself ahead of its opening with the presence of the first international Macy’s department store, the first Bloomingdale’s in Abu Dhabi and a unique roof-top food hall; and we have no doubt the center will be a landmark attraction for residents and visitors alike.”

In addition to retail outlets, Al Maryah Central will include 145 restaurants and cafés, a 20-screen cinema complex, a medical center, a food market, and a health club. There also will be public spaces such as a library and three rooftop parks atop the mall.

Subsequent phases of the development will turn it into a mixed-use area, with residential units and a hotel in two high-rise towers.
