His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, the Minister of Finance, took part in a session titled “Emerging Markets: Policy Challenges Amid Structural Shifts in the Global Economy” at the AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies held in Saudi Arabia. The session addressed policy challenges that emerging markets face due to rising uncertainty and shifts in the global economic landscape.
The discussion highlighted key issues such as the increasing frequency of external shocks that add pressure on these economies, necessitating rapid policy adaptation. It was noted that elevated uncertainty complicates decision-making processes and increases vulnerabilities within emerging markets.
Other structural challenges were also discussed, including high debt levels, weak growth, and the transition to clean energy, which further impede progress. Additionally, adapting to new technologies requires significant investments, placing further strain on limited resources and making it more challenging for emerging markets to navigate these complex issues.
