First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) has introduced the FAB Rewards Active Credit Card, which integrates wearable payment technology and fitness tracking. Developed in partnership with Mastercard, this card is the first of its kind to combine step-based wellness rewards with a contactless payment ring. The product features an image of football player Lionel Messi, who serves as Mastercard Ambassador.

The new credit card includes a complimentary fitness tracking payment ring that allows users to make contactless payments and earn rewards based on their daily steps. For every 1,000 steps taken, customers receive 25 FAB Rewards, up to a maximum of 250 rewards per day for 10,000 steps. These points can be redeemed for discounts on lifestyle and wellness products.

Additional benefits for cardholders include free access to gyms across the UAE, savings of up to 30% at selected sports and wellness brands, and the opportunity to earn up to 50,000 monthly FAB Rewards on qualifying sports-related purchases. Customers can apply for the card through various channels including the FAB Mobile app and bankfab.com.

Lionel Messi’s image is featured on an animated version of the card as part of a campaign aimed at promoting digital-first experiences from both Mastercard and FAB.

Rudy Sudarsono, Head of Credit Cards at FAB, stated: “The FAB Rewards Active Credit ‎Card delivers a world-first innovation that redefines how banking can support healthier, ‎more rewarding lifestyles. By integrating wellness and payment technology into a ‎wearable ring, and collaborating with global partners like Mastercard, FAB is not only ‎setting a new benchmark in customer experience, but we’re also fostering a new ‎community of active, empowered customers, through support from their bank every step ‎of the way.”

Gina Petersen-Skyrme, SVP and Country Manager for UAE and Oman at Mastercard said: “At Mastercard, we are passionate about connecting people to what matters most, and in ‎the UAE, sports and fitness are among the strongest consumer passions. The FAB ‎Rewards Active Credit Card marks an important milestone in our long-standing ‎collaboration with FAB, as we continue to bring innovative, meaningful solutions to market. ‎Together, we’re delivering rewarding payment experiences that elevate cardholders’ ‎active lifestyles.”

FAB’s initiative is supported by partnerships with Steppi—a health engagement platform responsible for step tracking—and Tappy Technologies—a provider of embedded tokenisation technology ensuring secure payments via wearables. Through these collaborations and technologies integrated into the credit card offering, FAB aims to encourage healthier habits while providing value-added services for its customers.
