The Fujairah Customs Authority and the Automobile and Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE) signed an agreement on Tuesday to decrease the amount of time it takes to transport goods across UAE borders with neighboring countries.
In the agreement, an International Road Transport System will be established that will allow for quicker border-transit times. This mirrors similar agreements that the ATCUAE has reached with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman.
“We are very pleased to have signed an agreement with the ATCUAE to play our part in making sure the nation embraces the best global practices in road transportation,” Fujairah Customs Director General Rashid Mohammed Said Hamad said. “The activation of the transport system is eagerly awaited by a wide range of goods, manufacturers and suppliers, and by their customers because it saves a great deal of time and money.”
A two-day workshop will take place in Dubai in June to prepare for the implementation of the system in the UAE. The system reduces customs approval times by having shippers pre-declare the items that are being shipped to allow customs employees to process the information while the goods are still in transit. The system is in place in 68 countries globally.
