Seven universities from the MENA region will be among 50 design schools showcasing innovations that could lead to a better future at the Global Grad Show during Dubai Design Week, taking place Oct. 24-29.
The American University in Dubai, King Abdullah University of Science Technology, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, NYU Abu Dhabi, American University of Sharjah, Middle East Technical University and German University in Cairo are participating in largest exhibition of student work from universities around the world.
Curated by Brendan McGetrick, the 2016 Global Grad Show exhibition will consist of 135 graduate projects revolving around the themes of home, work, play, mobility, health, memory and construction
“With each submission, I asked myself, ‘why does this need to exist?’” McGetrick said. “Different localities bring new and exciting solutions based on their particular cultural and material conditions. My goal for the exhibition is to give visitors a glimpse of projects that identify poorly addressed problems, provide new tools, and demonstrate new ways of thinking.”
Projects that have been selected for the exhibition include temporary architecture designed to add life to unfinished buildings, a watch that encourages safe driving, a board game intended to teach programming to children, a musical instrument and application offering a creative approach to music creation, and a solar-powered flood and traffic monitoring system.
