Saudi Electricity
Company (SEC) recently announced a partnership and cooperation agreement with Petroleum,
Chemicals & Mining Company Limited, a subsidiary of Saudi Binladen
Group, to establish the Green Saudi Company for Carbon Services.

The company will aim to develop and manage carbon emissions reduction programs and aid in the fight
against environmental pollution, SEC said in a news release. SEC CEO Ziyad Bin Mohammed Al-Shiha said in the release that the partnership is a major
step forward on the road to emission reduction and pollution control, which are
both key pillars in Kingdom Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program
2020.

Al-Shiha said the company has already made numerous
moves over the years to focus on environmental health and this is an additional step. The SEC has used
software technology to reduce dependence on fuel, applied new technical
standards in power plants, transitioned to a combined cycle system and accumulated
experience in environmental issues, renewable energy and reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2016,
the company’s actions and initiatives helped save more than 24.8 million
barrels of fuel and 13 million barrels of diesel.
