Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently became the first institution from Qatar to be named to Nature Index’s 2016 Top 25 Research Rising Stars in the Middle East and West
Asia, debuting at No. 15.
HBKU is a member of Qatar Foundation
for Education, Science and Community Development and has shown significant
development in the areas of scientific research between its colleges and research
institutes.
Nature Index works each year to recognize top performers in
the areas of academic institutions, corporate institutions and countries
around the world. The lists include more than 8,000 international entities that
are influential leaders in the world of science, and Nature Index ranks those
institutions by using an index of high quality research.
The database pulls
information from research articles within 68 prestigious science journals.
Universities and other entities honored on the 2016 Rising Start list are
recognized for their substantial growth in research and the activities that
support that growth in the past few years.
“The interdisciplinary research conducted at HBKU strives to
target some of the most pressing challenges faced by the world today while
supporting Qatar’s development, contributing to global scholarship and moving
key industries forward,” HBKU President Ahmad Hasnah said. “I am
pleased that HBKU’s efforts to bolster and champion excellence in research in
Qatar have been recognized by Nature Index this year.”
“HBKU students, faculty and researchers benefit from the
university’s unique research eco-system, offering up-and-coming researchers not
only exceptional mentorship, but also a strong network of academics around the
world,” Hasnah said.
