Educating participants on ways to use technology to enhance the effectiveness of public safety services was one of the main topics of the recent Global Forum on Emergency Telecommunications, which took place Jan. 26-28 in Kuwait.
The event was hosted by the Kuwaiti government and organized by the nation’s Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union.
Representatives from Chinese telecommunications and networking equipment provider Huawei Techonologies Co. Ltd. gave presentations on a variety of risk-reduction methods, disaster preparedness and the latest advances in public safety technology.
“The Global Forum on Emergency Telecommunications acts as an important platform for government entities to explore essential, yet innovative, technology available that can ensure a smarter and safer city,” Hameed Al-Qattan,
Kuwait’s undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications, said. “We value Huawei ‘s contribution to the advancement of the ICT (information and communications technology) sector in the country and recognize its commitment to working closely with government entities in the region to reinforce measures for a safer city.”
Huawei reps, including the company’s chief technology officer Joe So, showed attendees ways to use the company’s Video cloud, big data analytics and Software-Defined-Networking (SDN) to develop secure, flexible, effective public safety solutions.

Mohammad Allataifeh, Huawei Middle East’s director of public safety, said. “Guaranteeing public safety through more integrated and innovative communication technology is essential for agencies that are responsible for the lives of its citizens and workforce.
One of So’s presentations was titled “Trends and Emerging Technological Innovations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.”
“To meet these shared ambitions for the future, we look forward to being able to exchange and share our insight on what we believe is our vision for safer cities,”
Allataifeh said. “With our commitment to helping governments across the region, we believe that technology innovation that is open, agile, provides mission critical communication support and are highly secured form key components of ensuring public safety.”
