The Riyadh-based King
Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRELIEF) is leading international
efforts to rehabilitate Yemen’s health sector, which was nearly destroyed after
the usurping of power in Sana’a by Houthi militias and forces loyal to
deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The United
Nations has documented the attacks by the Houthi militia, claiming they violated international humanitarian law. These attacks purportedly involved
attacks on hospitals and medical facilities, and the militia
allegedly blocked medical supplies from reaching the area.
KSRELIEF
has sent 58 trucks with more than 600 tons of medical and therapeutic supplies
to all provinces in Yemen, starting with Aden and Marib. The
organization helped deliver malnutrition training to 3,531 health
workers in conjunction with the UN International Children’s Emergency Fund. Mobile health teams from the organization treated more than a quarter-million children suffering from acute malnutrition. KSRELIEF also delivered diabetes and cancer medications in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
