An agreement between Kuwait and the Italian government allows the former to gain 28 Eurofighter Typhoons, 22 single-seat and six twin-seat aircrafts, each of which will feature the E-Scan radar and will be of Tranche 3 standard.

Kuwait is now the eighth customer overall, and the third within the Gulf Region, of the Eurofighter Partner Companies (EPC). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman are also customers within the Gulf region.

“We are delighted to officially welcome the State of Kuwait as a new member of the Eurofighter family,” Eurofighter CEO Volker Paltzo said. “The confirmation of this order is further testament of the growing interest in the Eurofighter Typhoon in the Gulf region. It will enable Kuwait to benefit from the critical mass being developed in the Gulf and the many advantages that it brings to an Air Force in terms of interoperability, training and in-service support.”

The Eurofighter Typhoon first entered the industry near the end of 2003. Since then, more than 470 aircrafts have been purchased and delivered to six nations, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Austria and Saudi Arabia. The Eurofighter Typhoon now has a presence at 22 functioning units; the fleet has flown a combined 330,000 hours globally.

Kuwait’s order of 28 aircrafts follows an order by Oman for 12 Eurofighter Typhoons in December 2012.
