Lt. Gen. HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and minister of the interior, recently inaugurated the Ministry of the Interior’s smart library, which is considered the first of its kind in terms of harnessing
technology in the sciences and spreading knowledge.

The smart library consists of a wide range of digital information resources. The collection includes 8,000 periodic scientific journals, 14,000 e-books, over 3,000 online newspapers updated every minutes, and thousands of master’s theses and doctoral dissertations from around the world. There are also smart audiovisual programs and digital solutions.

“Keeping pace with the sciences requires providing staff members with digital and smart media content and means,” bin Zayed said, ” This comes in line with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy, which calls for harnessing the latest technologies in order to support innovation through the Creativity and Innovation Club affiliated with the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, which holds regular meetings with innovation teams through the interactive conference techniques available at the library.”

“The library is a specialized information center, providing reports and analysis for the benefit of decision-makers, in addition to specialized and high-efficiency techniques for summarization and translation,” bin Zayed said. “The library also uses the ‘pics for learning’ technique, by which images are used to reinforce learning (data visualization) in order to encourage reading.”

“The e-content of the library includes a wide range of international studies and recommendations issued by local and international academic institutions,” Col. Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, strategy and performance development director general at the Ministry of Interior, said. “This would pave the way to more improvement opportunities pertaining to participation in the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, in addition to using diverse benchmarking standards and choosing the best practices to be used in developing police services at the Ministry of Interior.”
