With the tourism sector in Oman booming, investors and developers of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) expect the facility’s 2016 opening to be a big event.

At a recent media event in Barcelona, Spain, OCEC Director of Business and Development

Gillian Taylor unveiled “Oman – an Oasis of Opportunity,” a new initiative to spotlight the growth and importance of the business events industry in the sultanate.

“Oman has a thriving business community with a flourishing culture of entrepreneurship that benefits from strong government support and encouragement,” Taylor said. “The sultanate’s competitive edge is further strengthened by its burgeoning reputation for academic excellence and leadership in research and innovation, as well as its future-forward approach to knowledge exchange.”

The initiative is supported Oman’s Ministry of Tourism.

“The Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre is a very important investment for Oman,” Ministry of Tourism Director General of Tourism Promotion

Salim Al Maamari said. “We have believed for a long time that the new center can develop tourism and, through conventions, we can diversify our economy and help it grow.”
