Oman’s Tourism Ministry and the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) of Muscat recently announced the planned openings in August of a new center and a convention bureau to enhance the sultanate’s tourism industry.

“Oman is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the world’s most exciting meeting, convention and exhibition destinations with the catalyst being the nation’s pillar project, the OCEC,” Ministry of Tourism Undersecretary Maitha Al Mahrouqi said in announcing the plans at the IMEX Frankfort 2016 exhibition. “IMEX Frankfurt 2016 is a valuable opportunity to … introduce the Oman Convention Bureau and its diverse services to the global events industry.”

Among Oman’s strengths are a healthy economy and business atmosphere, intellectual resources and public safety, along with a young and diverse population. Al Mahrouqi cited the sultanate’s advantageous geographical location, landscape and rich history as additional assets.

The OCEC will be located near Muscat International Airport.

“The OCEC is ready for business and we can’t wait to meet the world.” OCEC General Manager Trevor McCartney said.
