Open Signal recently said Oman has the 13th fastest 4G LTE network worldwide and credited telecommunications services and supplier Omantel for the sultanate’s ranking.

Oman latest ranking is an increase of 10 places in just three months and place Oman in a position to exceed advanced countries.

Open Signal is trusted source of intel on mobile carrier coverage around the globe. The company collected data from more than 15 million mobile devices around the world to compile the ranking. Open Signal also continuously observers the devices to monitor coverage and performance of their mobile connection.

Omantel first introduced 4G LTE to the sultanate in 2012,  the first provider to do so. The 4G LTE network has an average speed of 20 mbps and has the ability to reach more than 80 percent of Oman’s population. In addition to the 4G LTE network, Omantel began offering 4.5G technology in April, providing speeds of up to 200 mbps.

“It is deeply pleasing to see Oman achieve such an excellent global ranking, a fact that underscores our commitment to provide the latest and most innovative technology to our subscribers,” Omantel Chief Operating Officer Samy Ahmed Al Ghassany said. “It is very satisfying to witness the significant investments in the 4G LTE network come to fruition and benefit the sultanate as a whole. Oman ranked above nations such as the U.S., France, Sweden and Japan in terms of 4G LTE network speed, this is something we should all be proud of and really goes to show that we are capable of being global leaders across multiple sectors with the right investment, strategy and commitment to innovate.”

Part of Omantel’s goal is to connect even the most remote regions of the sultanate to each other and with the rest of the world. Omantel allows the digital society within the sultanate to continue to grow and offers unique ways to perform business actions and deliver news and other information to recipients around the globe.
