Oman’s Ministry of Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ooredoo on Wednesday that will open an avenue for sharing technical and management expertise in support of Omani tourism.

The agreement will mostly concern events and training organized by both the ministry and Ooredoo. Both parties agreed to cross-promote each others events and to facilitate trainings with small and medium tourism businesses.

“The Ministry of Tourism is constantly working toward improving the services provided by the tourism sector and utilizing the ministry expertise in implementing new programs,” Ministry Undersecretary Maitha bint Saif Al Mahrouqi said. “We strive to improve our ways of working, and using the latest technology is one way of doing this. This is why we have partnered with one of the leading telecommunication companies, Ooredoo, through this MoU. We would continue to partner with more organizations and work together to develop our community and the tourism sector in the sultanate.”

Ooredoo CEO Greg Young said the agreement symbolized an understanding of the importance of Oman’s tourism sector and that his company will do whatever it can to facilitate access to the country’s tourist destinations.

“The strategy that we adopt with the government is based on the mutual benefits one derives in building an enriching work environment,” Young said. “We aim to our share knowledge and expertise in order to establish best working practices. We hope that our products, efforts and dedication here at Ooredoo will help the sultanate in achieving the growth we set out to realize.”
