Omantel recently signed an agreement to partner with Ericsson to better network capabilities in Oman.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is designed to strengthen services based on the strategic plan of Omantel, Oman’s leading telecommunications operator.

“At Omantel, we see ourselves as innovators and early adopters of new technology,” Omantel CEO Talal Al Mamari said. “So it is vital that we partner with companies who can work with us symbiotically to deliver new services and innovations for the continued evolution of the Omantel 3.0 transformation strategy. This agreement with Ericsson comes as a part of our objective to deploy new digital smart home, innovative business and e-government services throughout 2016 and beyond.”

The MoU details how Omantel and Ericsson will collaborate on deployment of intelligent network upgrades and enhancements; the launch of innovative fixed and mobile products and services; the growth of Omantel’s product portfolio; and joint assessment of prospective regions for future collaboration.

“Our strategy positions Omantel as the digital partner of choice, and the increased levels of collaboration with Ericsson signals our accelerated approach toward network investment, enhancement and upgrades across the sultanate, both for retail consumers and corporate clients,” Al Mamari said. “We aim to be the nation’s digital partner of choice, helping to bridge the digital divide across all sectors of society.”

Ericsson is known as a top business in the communications technology sector and nearly 40 percent of all global mobile traffic moves through networks supplied by Ericsson.

“Delivering the highest quality to our customers when using our services and support is at the heart of our operation,” Ericsson Middle East and Africa Region President

Rafiah Ibrahim said. “We are living in a dynamic and diverse environment where operators’ services are inherent to subscribers’ lifestyles. Today’s partnership with Omantel will ensure improved customers’ satisfaction for their subscribers by delivering enriched day to day communications.”

One of Omantel’s most important objectives is to connect even the most remote regions to one another through a powerful network. The company’s work, with support from the sultanate, furthers the kingdom’s digital society while delivering innovative ways of doing business and bettering the local economy, delivering news and entertainment.

“We have previously partnered with Ericsson in Oman to invest in nationwide network capabilities,” Omantel Chief Operating Offier Samy Ahmed Al Ghassany said. “This relationship has been a real factor behind the expansion and improvement of network coverage levels throughout the sultanate. We believe that through mobility and connectivity services, our society can be transformed. The MoU with Ericsson represents a further step in the realization of our vision for Oman to become a truly networked society, where every person and every industry is empowered to reach their full potential.”
