Ooredoo Group, a Qatar-based communications company specializing in mobile, fixed, broadband and Internet services, and France-based Alcatel-Lucent, a company providing IP networking, ultra-broadband access and cloud technology services, have entered into a frame supply agreement.

This agreement lengthens an existing partnership by five years.

The new agreement contains language concerning new technologies and products and will help Ooredoo boost its presence in the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia. Alcatel-Lucent will provide network management and other professional services.

“Ooredoo is pursuing an ambitious network leadership strategy, which will support our efforts to ensure that our customers get the most out of today’s digital, connected world,” Ahmed Al Derbesti, Ooredoo Group’s chief operating officer, said. “Our agreement with Alcatel-Lucent builds on our long-standing collaboration with this international leader and strengthens our network as we continue to strive to enrich our customers’ lives by providing cutting-edge digital and mobile services.”

Philippe Guillemot, chief operating officer and sales officer for Alcatel-Lucent, agreed.

“Alcatel-Lucent is proud to deliver to Ooredoo its IP routing and transport solutions to meet the challenges of a networking landscape evolving to address the shift to video, cloud-based services and massive networking traffic growth,” he said. “We are committed to support — now and in the long term — Ooredoo´s strong development in all Ooredoo´s markets in Africa, the Middle East and in Asia-Pacific.”
