Qatari telecommunications company Ooredoo recently announced that it will expand and enhance its nationwide mobile broadband network through a new deal with Nokia.

The three-year agreement will give Ooredoo access to Nokia’s 2G, 3G and 4G LTE radio network based on its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station technology and core elements such as its Evolved Packet Core solution. The deal will provide customers with better quality and higher mobile internet speeds.

“This is another important development in our relationship with Ooredoo Qatar, and we continue the successful deployment of LTE technology across the country,” Bernard Najm, vice president and head of Nokia’s Middle East Market Unit, said. “Our mobile broadband technology allows service providers to keep pace with fast-growing customer data demands now and into the future.”

Ooredoo has already deployed Nokia’s LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation technology as part of its Supernet initiative. The LTE technology offers speeds of up to 375 megabits per second in the busiest areas of Doha.

“We continue to enhance the Ooredoo Supernet to deliver the best possible internet experience, working with a range of international technology leaders such as Nokia,” Ooredoo Qatar CEO Waleed Al-Sayed said. “By deploying these cutting-edge technologies from Nokia, we will continue to actively boost network performance from 2G through to LTE-A and deliver a host of social, financial and business benefits for Qatar.”
