Boeing said it will source carbon fiber pre-impregnated (prepreg) composite material for the Boeing 777X from a new joint venture in the U.A.E. formed by Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Development Company and Solvay. Boeing is the first customer for the Mubadala-Solvay joint venture, which will make composite material for the 777X empennage and floor beams.

Mubadala Development Company and Boeing agreed to work together in an effort to establish innovative research and development (R&D) projects to advance aerospace manufacturing capabilities in the UAE. The five-year agreement between the Abu Dhabi based investment and development company and Boeing ensures that Boeing will have access to Mubadala 's existing R&D ecosystem.

Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) has three new Boeing aircraft. Two 787-9 Dreamliners and a 777-300ER will join the 45 other Boeing planes in the Saudia fleet. "The delivery of our first Dreamliners marks yet another exciting chapter in Saudia's long-standing relationship with Boeing that began in the early 1960s," Saudia Director General Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser said.

Gulf Air announced Thursday that it will convert its current fleet of 16 787-8 twin-aisle planes to the 787-9 model, which will allow them to carry more passengers and cargo. The replacement model is 20 feet longer, allowing for 20 percent more passengers and up to 23 percent more cargo.

Oman Air has received its first of six Boeing 787 Dreamliners for use on routes to Europe and Saudi Arabia. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was released in 2011 to offer improved efficiency and has been used on more than 50 new nonstop routes around the world. Oman Air has also contracted with Boeing to support the introduction of 787 Dreamliners into its fleet.
