The Petroleum Institute University and Research Centre, Abu Dhabi’s engineering education and energy industry research institution, recently partnered with the British Council to make the university an accredited International English Language Testing System (IELTS) testing center.
The initiative will let students at the university take the IELTS exam at the Petroleum Institute campus in Abu Dhabi. The IELTS stands alongside the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test as the two most recognized exams for English language proficiency.
The institution currently has nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 200 faculty members. It is quickly becoming a leading teaching and research institution in the Middle East.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Petroleum Institute by representatives from The Petroleum Institute and the British Council, UAE (United Arab Emirates). Thomas Hochstettler, president of the Petroleum Institute signed on behalf of his organization while Marc Jessel, country director for the British Council UAE, signed as well.
Hochstettler said the agreement marks a significant milestone for the Petroleum Institute.
“This agreement will most assuredly facilitate the development of our students as productive, articulate contributors to the culture and prosperity of the nation,” Hochstettler said. “We welcome with enthusiasm this opportunity to partner with the British Council for our mutual benefit in the future.”
Petroleum Institute students can start signing up for IELTS exams at the campus as of this month.
