The goal of a new partnership struck between Philips SLC and Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) is to introduce customers in the Middle East and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to more eco-friendly and sustainable solutions.
To that end, SABIC, a global provider of diversified chemicals, and lighting solutions manufacturer Philips SLC have teamed up to launch the Home of Innovation initiative, where Philips will display its most cutting-edge LED lighting systems and solutions.

Home of Innovation was the brainchild of SABIC, which is building a facility in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where a variety of sustainable solutions and new innovations can be showcased — with the hope that communities will implement those solutions locally.

The facility will house a Collaboration Center and a Demonstration Home and will be adjacent to the SABIC Plastics Application Development Center (SPADC) on the campus of King Saud University. The products used in the facility are available for consumers.

“Home of Innovation provides us not only an opportunity to showcase our LED lighting systems but also the chance to collaborate with SABIC to identify market needs and develop the solutions,” Philips SLC General Manager Khalid Al Hobayb said.

Energy consumption in the kingdom ranks among the highest in the world, according to a recent study conducted by researchers from the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency. Using LED lighting systems — which are more energy-efficient, long-lasting, reliable and controllable — could mean significant energy savings.

“SABIC is excited to collaborate with Philips SLC in shaping the future with exciting new lighting applications and platforms such as connected LED technology,” Abdullah Al-Refaie, Home of Innovation director, said. “This initiative is a focal point for those committed to innovation and growth, bringing together the best minds and organizations interested in the future of the Middle East region. The Home of Innovation initiative, including the facility we are building in Riyadh, educates visitors about the challenges faced in the region and the opportunities they present.”
