Pöyry recently received an extension for the next two years for its Ras Al Khair power and desalination plant project located within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an extension that was granted by the Saline Water Conversion Company (SWCC), to extend the owner’s engineering services.

The project originally began in Nov. 2010. It was initially scheduled to be at full water and power production by the end of the year 2015.

According to the original agreement, after the plant’s completion in 2015, Pöyry would continue to provide SWCC with support until the project was entirely finished and received preliminary acceptance from the client. Acceptance was scheduled for May 2016. Then, Pöyry would continue to be the warranty engineer through to May 2017.

Pöyry provides project management and design review, as well as site supervision for the client. The company has more than 60 employees located at the project site, all of whom support the commission and construction of the facility.

“Pöyry has a long-standing relationship with SWCC going back some 30 years; as one of the world’s leading power engineering companies, Pöyry is proud to support our clients to succeed with important projects such as Ras Al Khair,” Floris van Straaten, Pöyry’s regional director in the Middle East for Thermal Power, said.
