Prada, the fashion house based in Milan, Italy, said Wednesday it has opened its first store in Saudi Arabia.

The single-level store, located in The Boulevard Mall in Jeddah, will carry women’s and men’s leather goods, accessories and footwear collections.

The facility was designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi, who has designed Prada Group projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other locations in the Middle East.

Prada was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as a leather goods shop, Fratelli Prada. Mario’s daughter Luisa Prada took the helm of Prada as his successor and ran it for almost 20 years. Her daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company in 1970 and took over as its leader in 1978.

A Prada shoe line was released in 1984; a year later, Miuccia released what is now known as the classic Prada handbag.

In 1987, Prada rolled out a women’s ready-to-wear collection. Men’s ready-to-wear collections were launched in the mid-1990s.

Prada boasts sales of more than 3.5 million euros annually.
