Qatalum issued the following announcement on Feb. 28.

The State of Qatar gives prime importance to the National Environment Day that falls on the 26th of February each year. With the conservation of the environment being one of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030, ministries, companies and institutes celebrate this annual occasion with the intention of stimulating environmental awareness in Qatar.

Ever since its inception, Qatalum has been continuously involved in efforts to maintain the highest standards in environment-friendly work practices. Every decision made, every brick laid and every step taken by its employees with regard to production, occur only after due consideration has been given to, and assurance received that there will be no negative impact on the environment or people. Reflecting this spirit, Qatalum, as one of the leading aluminum producers in the world, goes all out to ensure that it marks the National Environment Day with events, messages and functions involving staff at all levels.

This year, Qatalum’s Environment & Sustainability department stepped up its efforts to drive home the message in a more meaningful and practical manner, amongst its employees, in close corporation with the Plant Infrastructure team. The smelter went ‘green’ in every sense of the word. Under the catchy banner ‘Plant in the Plant’, staff were each given a sapling to plant in the premises. But it wasn’t purely for landscaping purposes or to mark the occasion.

When the saplings were planted in the designated area, the staff were pleasantly surprised to see that together, they had created a green ‘carpet’ in the shape of Qatar’s map. The purpose behind the eye-catching patch was three-fold – it mirrored the commitment of the company to the environment and to the country, while demonstrating the positive effects of team work at both the personal and professional level towards Qatar National pillar on Environment Development.

Aside from the activity, Qatalum also used the company’s social media platform to enhance their outreach amongst its staff and the general public. Messages such as ‘The Greener the Land the Cleaner’the Air, caught the attention of viewers, earning quite a few ‘Likes’ for creativity and concept.
