Qatar Airways officials recently hosted an invitation-only event for media guests to be treated to a five-star dining experience while aboard a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER parked on the tarmac of John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.

Several of New York City’s most notable journalists in the areas of food, travel and lifestyle attended the event, which was held to mark Qatar Airways’ being named Airline of the Year by Skytrax.

The guests were served in the plane’s business cabin and were able to order from a menu featuring items prepared by world-class chefs Nobu Matsuhisa and Vineet Bhatia.

“It is an incredible honor to be named Airline of the Year, and we could not think of a better way to celebrate than by bringing our signature airplane dinner to New York City,” Qatar Airways Vice President for the Americas Gunter Saurwein said. “Qatar Airways has a long tradition of offering the highest quality service. We are glad to showcase our unique dining options and in-flight amenities to all visitors.”

Guests also met with James Cluer, Qatar Airways’ master of wine. Cluer explained that the airline’s world-class wine lists are carefully selected for palates altered by high altitude. He spoke of the challenge of choosing the best vintages for consumption at 35,000 feet.

The event also celebrated the airline’s recognition by Skyytrax as World’s Best Business Class Seat. Those seats feature amenity kits by Giorgio Armani, lie flat beds with Frette linens, Bose noise-canceling headphones, designer sleepwear and 17-inch private screens with access to over 1,000 forms of entertainment.

Qatar Airways is the national carrier for the state of Qatar and operates one of the youngest fleets in the world. It is now in its 18th year of operation and has a modern fleet comprised of 157 aircraft.
Qatar Airways was named Airline of the Year by Skytrax in 2011, 2012 and 2015 as well as World’s Best Business Class for the past two years.
