The Qatar Chamber (QC) has announced that the second
International Arbitration Conference, an event organized by the Qatar
International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at QC, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), will take place in Doha Oct. 18-19.

QICCA board member Thani al-Thani
noted that the conference coincides with QICCA’s 10th anniversary, and is to be
held under the patronage of Minister of Interior Abdullah al-Thani.

The goal of the conference is to exchange best practices in
the field of arbitration among global and regional experts. Al-Thani announced
that the conference would focus on six core issues — reviewing arbitration
texts, the role of GCC arbitration centers in the economy, arbitration trends,
updating Qatari legislation, the integration of Qatari laws with international
treaties, and the role of the national judiciary when it comes to commercial arbitration.

Saleh al-Sharqi, QC general manager, noted that the
QICCA has been strong since its 2006 inception, helping to enforce the concept
of arbitration within the Qatari business sector.

The conference’s first edition took place in 2008 in Doha.
Heads of commercial arbitration centers from around the world attended.
