The
Qatar Chamber of Commerce recently completed a panel discussion on “Party Participation in an Arbitration” that focused best practices in dispute settlement and boosting trade between Qatar and companies from around the world.

“We are very happy with the wonderful turnout and interest
that the Qatari community has shown in the ICC Qatar Arbitration Series and
particularly this panel discussion which has brought together some of the top
lawyers in the field of arbitration” said Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al
Thani, chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and executive board member of ICC International Secretariat.

Speakers at
the event included Michael Mitchell, general counsel of the Qatar Foundation;
Stephen Hibbert, general counsel of Qatar Rail; Christopher Newmark, chairman of
the Qatar Chamber of Commerce’s Global Commission on Arbitration and ADR; and Thomas Wilson, partner with Squire Patton Boggs and head of the firm’s arbitration practice in the Middle East.

“The panel discussion was excellent and we were treated to an
engaging discussion from distinguished panelists on how they approach
arbitration and dispute resolution in their practices,” said Charbel Maakaron, head of the ICC Qatar Commissioner on Arbitration and ADR. “I was thrilled with
the number of people who attended, as this reflects that there is a deep thirst
in the Qatar legal community for developing expertise in arbitration and
dispute resolution.”
