The International
Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Qatar launched a new monthly series on Tuesday that aims to help everyone from business executives to students learn about arbitration issues. The first seminar, “Drafting Arbitration
Clauses,” was presented by attorneys from Squire Patton Biggs.

“Launching the Arbitration Series and bringing together some
of the top legal experts in Qatar and ICC to share their knowledge with the
Qatari community emphasizes ICC Qatar’s continuous mission to facilitate
sustainable economic growth and development in Qatar,” Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani said. “Strengthening the role of arbitration in Qatar provides an efficient
alternative mechanism for dispute settlement, accelerating the growth of local
businesses, and stimulating international investment flows and trade.”

ICC Qatar’s
Commission on Arbitration and ADR manages the monthly series, which
will focus on fostering development of trade and investment between Qatar and
businesses in the international community. The idea is to inform professionals
across Qatar – businesses, governmental agencies and public and private sectors
– about arbitration.

“I am proud to see this initiative materialize, and I am
confident the Arbitration Series will benefit the Qatar legal community by
strengthening the understanding and effective use of arbitration and ADR
processes in Qatar,” Charbel Maakaron, managing Partner of Squire Patton Boggs, said.
