Qatar Minister of Justice Hassan Lahdan Saqr Al Mohannadi said the nation will have new laws related to commercial arbitration within the next six months during

the 11th Conference of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Lawyers and Arbitrators.

The theme of the conference, which concluded Sunday in Doha, was “A Promising Legal Environment for Investment.”

The forum featured a speech by Bandar bin Salman Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, honorary chairman of the ad hoc GCC Lawyers’ Association.

“Earlier, we were depending on foreign lawyers and arbitrators and today it is the time to depend on our own people, fellow citizens of the GCC, as they have the potential and the ability to meet the aspirations in this regard of the leaders of the GCC states,” Al Saud said.

Also discussed at the conference was a proposal by GCC leaders to set up an economic commission, as well as the finalization of economic legislation to unify the GCC states. This would cover commercial laws, competition laws, commercial fraud laws and other laws.
