Qatar puts family at forefront of poverty battle

Families play a key
role in social development, and Qatar is working on platforms aimed
at helping families succeed, Qatar’s representative to the United
Nations said recently.

Al Thani spoke during a seminar
titled “Combating poverty: the case of investment in programs
and policies, family-oriented.” Developed by Qatar’s permanent UN
delegation and the Doha International Institute for Family, the
seminar was held on the sidelines of the 55the session of UN
Committee for Social Development. Qatar is deputy chair of the
committee.

Al Thani stressed
the need to recognize the importance of the family in working toward
sustainable development goals, such as Qatar’s National Vision
2030. She also said Qatar played a leading role by in the development of
the UN’s “International Year of the Family” resolution.
