Qatar Railways holds architectural conference on Doha Metro station

Qatar Railways Company recently promoted a conference to showcase architectural opportunities for local suppliers to become involved with the Doha Metro station.

The daylong conference, held at the Doha’s La Cigale Hotel under the theme “Doha Metro Architectural Finishes,” attracted 180 partners, potential partners and suppliers.

The event presented discussions and presentations by Qatar Rail’s procurement and architecture departments.

During the event, Kaldoon Truman, Senior Director of Contracts and Procurement at Qatar Rail, made a presentation wherein he detailed manufacturer selection and approval mechanisms, contract management terms and conditions, architectural finishes tender course of action and timelines and general projects timescales.

With a focus on material and element technical specifications and requirements for the Doha Metro’s 37 stations, Mohamed Timbely, Senior Director of Architecture and MEP at Qatar Rail, provided information on architectural branding guidelines, the selection of materials for the stations mock ups, the materials acceptance criteria and the status and opportunities pertaining to materials and furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The first phase for the Doha Metro’s architectural works, covering 37 stations, is expected to be completed in 2018, and the second phase, handling 72 stations, in 2030.
