Qatar real estate company Alfardan Properties recently was honored for sustainability design practices and for its support of Tarsheed, Qatar’s national program for conservation and energy efficiency, for its Al Gassar Resort.

Alfardan Group President and CEO Omar Alfardan accepted the accolade from Qatar Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, who presented the firm with the first-place prize in the Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition residential category.

“It is an honor to be recognized for our ongoing efforts to support the national initiatives that aim to enhance the well-being of the citizens of Qatar,” Alfardan said. “Alfardan Group stands in solidarity with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, emir of Qatar, in achieving the goals set forth by his pioneering vision for the country. We are committed to leading by example and implementing energy and water saving solutions to safeguard resources for the future generations.”

Al Gassar, located near downtown Doha with proximity to cultural amenities and the Doha Exhibition Center, offers upscale apartments and penthouses overlooking the Persian Gulf. The structure incorporates a cooling plant, motion detection sensors and a gray water treatment plant, a landmark water consumption conservation system that recycles shower and sink water, filtering and purifying it for re-use within the building.

“Alfardan Group has played an active role in cultivating the business landscape of Qatar through its wide range of premier developments,” Alfardan said. “We aim to … work towards the coordinated and pioneering sustainability program and accomplish the goals set forth by the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Tarsheed, established by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation to bring awareness of energy stewardship to the public through educational programs in schools and other local level initiatives, has succeeded in reducing electricity and water consumption in Qatar by 14 and 17 percent respectively since its founding.
